Dancers are the messengers of the gods. ~Martha Graham

The messengers of the gods say it is a good time to dance - especially at Swing City. Celebrate Canada Day in style this Friday at Swing City with a Waltz Workshop with John at 8pm and a Ballroom Dance from 9 to 11pm.

New Classes for June and July just started. This is the last series of classes before September - there is still some space in a few classes - see list on the Lessons Page.

Outdoor Summer Dances kick off this Weekend with concerts in Beacon Hill Park on Saturday & Sunday and dances at Butchart Gardens and Goward House on Tuesday. Other events, like Dancing in the Square will start the following week - see more information and links below.

The last Summer Dance Camp on the island takes place in July - talk to John soon for tickets: http://ballroomnanaimo.ca/events/dance-fest/

Canada Day - Celebrate Canadian Comedy - Even though he passed away in 2010 at the age of 84 Leslie Nielsen is still fondly remembered for the more than 100 films he starred in. Here are a few of his quotes:

It was a boy's name first...

The reason they call it 'golf' is that all the other 4 letter words were used up.

Yes, it's true, I've been called the Laurence Olivier of spoofs. I guess that would make Laurence Olivier the Leslie Nielsen of Shakespeare.

Doing nothing is very hard to do... you never know when you're finished.

I really have to keep an eye on myself, because sometimes I think I might say something important.

I played a lot of leaders, autocratic sorts; perhaps it was my Canadian accent.

Dr Rumack (played by Nielsen): Can you fly this plane, and land it? Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious. Dr Rumack: I am serious ... and don't call me Shirley.
